The Third Virtual Spelling Bee Contest

The third edition of the virtual Spelling Bee contest was held on Friday, 25th September with more than twenty spellers registered for the contest. As is the norm, each speller brought their ‘A’ game and were all determined to covet the title of the best speller!

Unlike in the previous virtual contests, all spellers irrespective of their grades faced each other on the same timing. This made the contest not only competitive but also interesting!

The theme of this contest was ‘Climate Change’, guided by Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS), an independent society that advocates for green buildings in the country. KGBS provided a study list to all participants that was used to derive some of the spelling words during the contest.

Mr. Maurice Omondi, the official Kenya National Spelling Bee teacher of English presided over the contest as the chief pronouncing judge and after two hours of a neck to neck contest, Inaara Ruqaiya from Consolata School in Nairobi scooped the title of the best speller! Obed Kipngeno, Kericho Primary and Izeah Kabaki from Riara International School came position two and three respectively.

PRIZES

The champion, Inaara, walked away with a brand new laptop while Obed and Izeah each received a stationery gift hamper!
